We regularly exchange ideas with our producers. Always personally through a visit on site or via digital networks such as Skype, Zoom etc.
So these days we had a video call with one of our cashmere producers in India - with Arsalan. With him we could visit the factory, look at the working conditions, talk to employees and get to know his family history.
150 years of craftsmanship
Arsalan's family has been in the textile industry for 150 years. His great-great-grandfather once founded a carpet factory and still knotted carpets there himself. Today they primarily work with us Cashmere and high quality wool products. Next to the workplaces is the family's 150-year-old property, where workers and family members can also come and go. We were interested in whether there were many seasonal workers. “Of course we also have seasonal workers, but most of the workers have been with us for years or decades. You are like a part of the family, for which we also have a social responsibility. One of our best weavers has been with us for 20 years and even knew my grandfather! ”Says Arsalan about his employees.
Responsibility matters
We also talked to Arsalan about the current challenging situation in India spoken: “Many workers have become unemployed in the lockdown. We are fortunate to have reliable partners from abroad as well, so that we did not have to lay anyone off. ”It was impressive to hear that they did not make any savings, even in difficult times, such as the deterioration in the quality of the goods and the pollution of the environment or would mean a disadvantage for employees. From that point of view, a really modern company.
Together we create
For us at hempeline it is always important to see who we work with and how these partners treat people and nature. Because for us, it's not about offering our customers beautiful things at any price, but rather that they are produced under fair conditions. Only in this way do they make us happy and really make us shine.
